What you get

A site that is HTML, CSS and the smallest amount of JavaScript that does the job. No framework you'll be asked to upgrade in eighteen months, no build pipeline that only runs on one laptop, and no plugin that quietly breaks the site when it updates itself at three in the morning.

The pages are static files. That makes them cheap to host, quick to serve from anywhere, and very hard to take down. This site is built that way, and so is every project on the work page.

Accessibility is not a phase at the end

Real headings in the right order, keyboard focus you can see, alt text that says something, colour that clears AA against the background it actually sits on, and motion that respects the system setting for people who get sick from it.

None of that is expensive if it goes in as the page is built. All of it is expensive to retrofit, which is the usual reason it doesn't happen.

Speed is a budget, not an adjective

Every asset on a page is a decision. Fonts get subsetted to the characters the site actually sets and instanced down to the weights it actually uses; images ship in a modern format at the size they are displayed; nothing is loaded because it might come in handy.

The home page of this site is under six kilobytes of compressed HTML. That isn't a trick, it's just what a page weighs when nobody put anything in it that didn't need to be there.
