Utilities publish filings, not prices
A tariff can carry a tier ladder that resets daily, a time-of-use schedule that changes by month and weekday, a fixed charge billed per day and riders on top of the headline rate. Get any one wrong and the answer is off by a multiple. NerdyWatts prices each filing against what a household actually uses, so the total comes back with every charge already in it.
Honest about its limits
Every figure carries the year it was filed, because an old filing and a cheap one look identical in the math, and stale rates are kept out of the rankings. Rates that can't be priced from usage alone get a reference page and no estimate, and errors in the raw data are flagged rather than quietly fixed.
